Se dice que viajar es el mejor modo de perder el tiempo, pero para un artista es la única forma de no perder el alma. En este bienio, mi obra se convirtió en una intrusa internacional. De los muros institucionales en México a la mística bruma de Rumanía, pasando por el silencio de Grecia y, por supuesto, ese laberinto de agua que es Venecia, me dediqué a exportar mis obsesiones. Cada exposición fue un fotograma arrancado a la realidad; una mezcla de café, resina y el descaro de quien sabe que la belleza solo es soportable si tiene un punto de extrañeza.
No busqué adaptar mi trabajo a cada ciudad, sino obligar a cada ciudad a mirar a través de mi lente. Fue un periodo de una versatilidad casi violenta: maquetar el espacio para que el espectador no solo viera un cuadro, sino que entrara en una escena. Como bien sabemos, el mundo es un escenario demasiado grande para interpretarlo con un solo registro. Estas son las huellas de un peatón que decidió que el mundo entero era su calle.
It is said that travel is the best way to waste time, but for an artist, it is the only way not to lose one’s soul. During this biennium, my work became an international intruder. From the institutional walls in Mexico to the mystical mists of Romania, through the silence of Greece and, of course, that labyrinth of water that is Venice, I devoted myself to exporting my obsessions. Each exhibition was a frame torn from reality; a mixture of coffee, resin, and the audacity of one who knows that beauty is only bearable if it possesses a touch of strangeness.
I did not seek to adapt my work to each city, but rather to force each city to look through my lens. It was a period of almost violent versatility: laying out the space so that the viewer did not merely see a painting but entered a scene. As we well know, the world is a stage too grand to be performed with a single register. These are the footprints of a pedestrian who decided that the entire world was his street.
